It was three years ago to this day that I joined DeviantArt. At the time I didn't have high expectations. I knew I wasn't going to become one of the most watched Deviants, I knew my artwork wouldn't become the most viewed or most favorited, and I knew I wouldn't be a household name on the website or in the art industry. I just wanted to become part of the DeviantArt community. I had been visiting the site for eight years and I felt it was time to join it. I actually discovered DeviantArt by chance. I was browsing images related to H.G Wells The War Of The Worlds on google images and I came across a pencil drawing of tripods from the 2005 movie. The link said it was on an art website called DeviantArt so I decided to have a look. My mind was instantly blown. I had always been artistic and I loved to draw, but the website expanded my horizons. A couple of years later, I became interested in photography. I got a Sony SnapShot for Christmas back in 2007 and for the next four years I played around with that, taking pictures of stuff I owned and things I saw on my vacations. After I graduated high school in 2011, I signed up for a photography course at Surrey College and my parents bought me my first professional camera as a graduation present. It was a Nikon D3100 and it expanded my horizons even further. Ultimately, I stopped using my SnapShot and my Nikon became my main camera for everything. My SnapShot was broken anyway, I dropped it while I was at a Vancouver Canucks game back in 2012. I studied and learned the skills of photography while taking two courses at Surrey College from 2011 to 2012. Some of my skills were self taught and I actually learned more since I joined DeviantArt. In fact, I've actually gotten better since I joined DeviantArt and I've had a much bigger reception than I thought I would get and I've even made some new friends along the way. Of course I've had my share of criticisms, but I haven't let them drag me down or let myself lose my spark because of them, nor have I questioned my skills and capabilities as a photographer. I'm still just an amateur and hobbyist, but I would like to make a career out of my photography one day and truly become professional. I still have many dreams and plans involving photography. There are many places I hope to visit one day and capture through the lens. I also still long to capture a perfect shot of an Eagle in the wild. For now I will keep photographing my usual subjects like cityscapes, birds and animals, landscapes, and the various forms of transportation. I will also keep sharing them on this wonderful website. To all of my watchers, I'd like to thank you for your continuous support. I don't think I would have stayed on DeviantArt without it. I look forward to what the next three years have in store for me and what I will achieve and produce in that time.
I joined because some real life friends back in high school convinced me to. Unfortunately they aren't active anymore, but I'm glad I decided to rough it through college when I barely had time to check my messages so I could still exist here today. Same plan. Never really wanted that much attention - which is one of the reasons I got so angry when that girl decided to make a public mockery of something I have since put in storage. Anyway, glad you're here.
Congrats! A fellow Vancouverite! I am jealous that you got to take photo courses, I had to completely self-teach (though I do have art training). Living in this city you should have no problem finding Eagles. I have see them many times around English Bay. I have noticed that they will perch at sunset. You just need them to perch low enough that you can move back to get as close eye level as possible (which will also increase your DOF). This is a great site for community, maybe not the best to get noticed as your work tends to get buried in submissions. I look forward to seeing your work.
Congrats on your anniversary. Your photos are of professional quality to me. You will make it. You not only have the talent but you have the passion. Good luck with it all.I am so very glad I found you on DA.
A great read!, DA is a great place to broaden our horizons that's for sure!. One step at a time, your goals will be realized. Only time, not a question of if!
Never give up. Congrats on the 3 years.
Congratulations! I have joined DA for about two and half years.
Congrats, Greg !
Congrats on the Anniversary
